I came into endocrinology because diabetes is rarely just a glucose problem. It touches sleep, weight, mood, energy, and how someone sees themselves day to day. What kept me here is watching how much can change when a patient finally understands the patterns driving their numbers. Not from a textbook, but from their own life. After 22 years in practice, the moments that still move me are the small ones. A patient who finally connects a stressful week to a string of high readings. Someone who realizes their A1c dropped because they fixed their sleep, not their willpower. That is the work I want to keep doing.

Long-term metabolic health is built in small, repeatable decisions, not heroic ones. Most of my work with a member is helping them find the two or three changes that fit their actual life. The ones they can keep doing on a hard Tuesday. The progress comes from consistency over months, not intensity in the first week.

I am at my best when I am outdoors and moving. A long walk, time in nature, the kind of slow weekend that resets a busy week. Cooking is its own quiet pleasure too, especially when it ends with people I love around the table. Those are the things that remind me why metabolic health matters in the first place.
