Amber Smith leads wellness programming at Heald, where she designs personalized care for members with Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. Her work sits at the intersection of public health, behavior change, and day-to-day coaching. She translates evidence-based health initiatives into routines that members can actually keep. At Heald, Amber leads the development and execution of personalized wellness programs, working alongside registered dietitians, behavioral health coaches, and fitness specialists. Her approach draws on years of work at the intersection of behavior change, workplace culture, and the environmental factors that shape how people manage chronic conditions. She also supports community outreach initiatives that expand wellness access to underserved populations.

I came into this work through a broader lens. Public health and workforce wellbeing. What kept me here was seeing how much chronic conditions like Type 2 diabetes weigh on people's everyday lives. Not just the medical part: the cost, the worry, the way it changes how you think about your own future. The thing that drew me toward direct work with members was wanting to be in the conversation where habits actually change. Not at the policy level, but at the kitchen-table level. That is where the real shifts happen.

Behavior change is not a willpower problem. It is a design problem. My job is to help a member redesign the friction points in their day so the healthy choice becomes the easy one. We do not go looking for motivation. We go looking for the two or three adjustments that quietly shift everything else.

Movement is the constant. Whether it is a long walk, a workout, or just being outside. I learned early that I think clearer after I move. Beyond that, I am someone who genuinely enjoys cooking, especially the kind of food that does double duty: tastes great and supports the body. The rest is family and conversations with people who push my thinking.
