Foreign. I've been practicing as a pediatric endocrinologist for quite some time now. And diabetes and poor metabolic health, they are at its core. What really changed for me in terms of my management of diabetes and poor metabolic health was the frustration of not being able to do enough for my patients. What I realized was whatever said and done, whether I asked them to take their medications properly on time, or I asked them to make some modifications in terms of their lifestyle, it was only 50% of the time successful. There have been obesity clinics that also that I've been running, but every follow up visit would meet with some sort of disappointment or frustration at the level of the family care versus even the individual not being able to follow what's set to be followed. Ultimately what I realized was there was much more to the science of diabetes and poor metabolic health and we're not really doing enough for our patients. I realized that there is much to be dug deeper into and just talking about eat more, sorry, eat less or walk more wasn't really enough. And that's when I realized that there is a big role of behavioral modification strategies that are needed for all our individuals, all our patients. What we realized was every individual was unique would be their genetics, be their epigenetics, their cultural connection, their emotional connection to food, or how they thought about themselves. And that's what drives me into finding these unique solutions to the daily problems that we face in terms of poor metabolic health, weight management or diabetes of my patients. And that's what challenges me.
One guiding philosophy that I abide by wherever I work is using a foundation of an ethical mindset, making sure that I follow evidence-based medicine, and setting the right expectations in terms of the outcomes. And I always make sure that I back this up by the motto that every individual deserves to be heard in a very compassionate and judgment-free manner.
I find nature-based walks and daily yoga-based physical activity as something that gives me energy every day. Apart from that, spending time with my close friends and family members and listening to soft music, and sometimes exploring different cultures and new lands, is something I really enjoy.
